Starting point
Complex requirements for building control had to be translated into an intuitive operating structure.
Challenge
High functional density combined with tclear and comprehensible user guidance.
Approach
Development of a reduced, logically structured interface architecture with a clear hierarchy.
Result
Intuitive control of complex functions and higher market acceptance.
Complex building control made intuitively manageable. More than 30 switches are translated into individual switch geometries, organised in groups by function – reducing cognitive load and improving recall. Interface hierarchy is established through separate levels: adjustment rockers for individual functions, group and scene buttons for stored settings, and a master dimmer rocker for overall brightness control – with main switches positioned separately. The formal language is reduced to the essential: each switch geometry individually designed within its group, legible at a glance. A joint development by Gira, Berker and Jung through their shared subsidiary INSTA Elektro, marketed under all three brands.
